IWD26! Each year on IWD, I pay tribute to women I hugely admire, who have inspired or guided me on my artist’s path in some way. This year 3 brilliant writers:
Jennifer Higgie @jennifer_higgie
Whose book ‘The Other Side’ is a lifelong inspiration to me. Introducing me to historic female artists who are in touch with the world of spirituality, which deeply resonates with me. Think Agnes Pelton, Ithell Colquhoun.
Claire Bishop
Author of ‘Artificial Hells’ and recently ‘Disorder and Disordered Attention: How We Look at Art and Performance Today’. Her description of the white cube (art) and the black box (perfomance, theatre) really clarified the tension that lies between these art forms, and which I sense in my own practice.
Grace Blakeley @grace.blakeley
Author of ‘Vulture Capitalism’. A real eye opener which explains a lot about the world we live in today, such as the rising inequality in late capitalism. This changed my understanding for ever.
Check out these brilliant authors and their books.
